Spazzo Loses Lease, New Owners of Key Bank Building in Bellevue
5/3/2005
Bellevue, Wash. — At the end of business on Friday, May 27, 2005, Spazzo Italian Grill will be closing its doors at 10655 NE 4th Street on the top (9th) floor of the Key Bank Building in Bellevue.
“This was not our decision,” said Bill Schwartz, Chairman and Founder of Schwartz Brothers Restaurants, the multi-concept restaurant and food services company that operates Spazzo. “We have no choice. The new owners of the Key Bank Building have decided to convert the top floor into office space.”
According to President Lindsey Schwartz, the first priority of the company is to its employees. “We have already begun the process of placing as many Spazzo employees as possible within other Schwartz Brothers’ businesses.” With the summer approaching, there will be positions opening at Schwartz Brothers’ lakeside restaurants in Seattle: Daniel’s Broiler at South Lake Union and Leschi Marina on Lake Washington, and Chandler’s Crabhouse at Chandler’s Cove at South Lake Union. Employment options will be explored at other Schwartz Brothers’ operations including Daniel’s Broiler at Bellevue Place, Gretchen’s Shoebox Express, Schwartz Brothers Catering and Daniel’s Catering, and Schwartz Brothers Bakery.
“It’s too early for us to know what the future will bring, but we are considering opportunities in both the Seattle and Eastside markets,” said Lindsey Schwartz. Spazzo has occupied its view restaurant space at the Key Bank Building since 1992, at which time it was a conversion from Benjamin’s, a Schwartz Brothers’ restaurant in operation since 1979.
With Spazzo Italian Grill’s departure, Bellevue will lose one of only two view restaurants in the city, leaving only Daniel’s Broiler at Bellevue Place.
