Learn How to Make the Decadent Daniel's Broiler Fruit Tart

Recipe for the Daniel's Broiler Fruit Tart

Makes 2 tarts

Ingredients

  • 4 each (5"x 5") puff pastry squares (available in the frozen foods section of most grocery stores)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tbsp. Milk
  • 1 tsp. Granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp. Ground cinnamon
  • 1 Ripe pear (or apple)
  • Powdered sugar

Method:
  1. Lay out 2 of the puff pastry squares, prick with a fork several times.
  2. Combine egg and milk, beat well and brush over puff pastry.
  3. Lightly sprinkle ½ of the sugar and cinnamon over the pastry.
  4. Slice pear into very thin slices and fan over pastry leaving approx. 3/8" on all sides.
  5. Slice remaining pastry squares into ¼" strips and arrange strips on the outer edges of the bottom square. Arrange remaining strips over the top in a lattice-work fashion.
  6. Brush again with egg wash and sprinkle with remaining sugar and cinnamon. (May freeze at this stage for later use)
  7. Bake in 375° for 10-12 minutes until pastry "puffs" slightly and appears golden brown.
  8. Serve with warm caramel or butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar as garnish.

Eastside and Westside Brunch
Monday through Fridays are filled with nonstop to-do lists and obligations that sap our time and energy. Why not take some of the pressure off by treating yourself to an exceptional weekend brunch? Sit down, relax, and let someone else bring you tasty food and exotic beverages for a change. Whether you're an Eastsider or a Westsider, Schwartz Brothers Restaurants has you covered. Chandler's Crabhouse has been serving brunch on South Lake Union for nearly 20 years, while Spazzo Italian Grill and Wine Bar recently began offering brunch at Redmond Town Center.

South Lake Union makes a beautiful backdrop any time of year. Enjoy the view from Chandler's prime location as you enjoy delights such as the Dungeness Crab Omelette (Dungeness crab, sautéed mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions, and boursin cheese), Eggs Chandler's (Seared Dungeness crab cakes, sautéed spinach, poached eggs, and chive hollandaise) or Dungeness Crab Quiche (Dungeness crab, artichokes, asparagus, and parmesan cheese). If crab isn't your thing, the menu includes a delicious House-smoked Salmon Omelette (with roasted fennel, tomatoes, ricotta, and fresh dill) or down-home classics such as French Toast Foster (thick-cut brioche bread, caramelized bananas, and maple syrup) or Corned Beef Hash (poached eggs and chili hollandaise sauce). Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 3pm. The freshly baked scones with currants and lemon zest are worth the trip!

Redmond Town Center is not only a great place to shop, but it's close to Marymoor and Sixty Acres Park, as well as the Sammamish River Trail. So whether you're headed to a soccer game or just want to sit down for a relaxing meal in a cozy setting, Spazzo Italian Grill and Wine Bar fits all needs. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 3pm. Nestle up next to the fireplace with warm fritters and Italian coffee, while deciding between menu options such as the Omelet di Salsiccia (Italian sausage and artichoke hearts with fontina cheese), Uova al Italiano (Italian-style eggs benedict, foccacia, tomato, prosciutto, and choron sauce), or Frittata al Spinaci (baked omelette with spinach, cheese, and salsa rosa). Bambinos (children 8 and under) who aren't ready to embrace their Italian side can choose bacon, eggs, and fruit.

Add some rest and relaxation to your weekends as you visit one of Schwartz Brothers Restaurants brunch offerings; Chandler's Crabhouse on South Lake Union and Spazzo Italian Grill and Wine Bar adjacent to Redmond Town Center Mall.

The Chandler's Crabhouse Signature Bloody Mary
History of a Perfect Bloody Mary
Legend has it the Bloody Mary was the brainchild of Fernand Petiot, an American bartender who bartended at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the '20's. The story goes that when he mixed the tomato juice and vodka, a patron suggested that the drink be named the Bloody Mary, because it was reminiscent of the Bucket of Blood Club in Chicago, and a girl there named Mary. Another account is that the drink is named after the lovely Bloody Mary herself, Queen Mary I, famous for her persecution of the Protestants.

Today's version of the classic cocktail can be enjoyed in many manifestations - with beer instead of tomato juice, extra spicy peppers, or even yogurt. Tomato juice is a powerful mixer and can stand up to a lot of experimentation. Chandler's Crabhouse has been an institution in the city of Seattle for 20 years. We celebrate only the freshest ingredients the greater Pacific Northwest has to offer, in a unique atmosphere. Combined with brilliant views of Lake Union, our "World Class Service" creates the ultimate dining experience for everyone to enjoy. So come in and enjoy the perfect Bloody Mary with the freshest seafood in the Pacific Northwest.

Daniel's Catering Rises to the Occasion, Every Occasion

You bring it to us, we'll make it world class!

Daniel's Catering completed 2007 with a bang. With a total of 723 events executed at Experience Music Project, Columbia Winery and many other off-site venues, Daniel's Catering had a record year.

Daniel's Catering's world class food and service are available for clients desiring anything from an intimate dinner with friends to a full blown gala.

In December 2007, Daniel's Catering catered our largest off-site event to date. The Microsoft Vision Studio themed product launch party for 1,800 guests was held in a parking garage on the Microsoft Campus. The space was transformed into various color-coordinated nightclub lounges, a casino and a disco dance club.

Daniel's Catering events have included an eclectic array of fascinating, intriguing and challenging themes and client requests: Daniel's Catering orchestrated an incredibly unique Wedding Reception at EMP including a marching band dressed in "Cirque du Soleil" costumes and performers on 3-foot stilts.

Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide sponsored a Tuaca "Body Art Ball" at EMP where professional performers were airbrushed by world-renowned artists. Once painted, the performers danced to music that corresponded with the theme of their body art.

2008 is looking just as promising. In January, Amazon hosted its post-holiday party for its 3,000 employees at Experience Music Project (EMP)-the largest event Daniel's Catering has ever been involved with. The event included multiple buffets and bars, ice luges that displayed and dispensed beverages in a unique style and the band Presidents of the United States of America performed in Sky Church.

For your special event at a unique location of your choice, let the Daniel's Catering team attend to your every need. From intimate dinners to lavish buffets, our customized menus feature the freshest seasonal foods and wines available in the Northwest. For food and beverage, service staff, floral, rentals, decorations, even valets, Daniel's Catering will design a one-of-a-kind event with all the special touches guaranteed to create a lasting memory.
